Popper’s Treetos
Greetings, food adventurers! It’s time to visit the circus! The Circus of the Last Days is just outside of Wyrm’s Crossing and it is a perfect time to stop by. Of course, what’s a circus without snacks? Our favorite kobold Popper has let us know he has Treetos to share (bacon-wrapped dates).
We wander the circus a bit first, taking in the sights. They have a displacer beast, a raptor-looking dinosaur creature, and all sorts of interesting side shows. We stop to listen to the musician buskers and cheer for a show on the makeshift wooden stage. We try our luck spinning the wheel of fortune. Finally, it is time for trinket shopping! We stop and chat with Popper, admiring the bizarre collection of goods he has gathered. Popper tells us how much he loves traveling with the circus. He gets to eat all the bugs and small creatures he wants, collects oddities and trinkets, and is surrounded by a loving circus family.
Popper is excited for the company and offers to share snacks. His Treetos are dates wrapped in bacon, stuffed with blue cheese and glazed with maple syrup. They are every bit as good as they sound. Step right up!

Popper’s Treetos (Bacon-Wrapped Dates)
Special Equipment
- Pastry brush (for brushing on the syrup)
Ingredients
- 24 Medjool dates
- ¼ cup Maple syrup
- 12 Slices of bacon cut in half (regular, not thick-cut)
- 4 oz mild Blue cheese crumbles
Instructions
- Slice halfway through the date to reveal the pit, then pinch the date and remove the pit.
- Preheat oven to 400 F.
- Stuff cheese tightly into each date.
- Cut the bacon slices in half and wrap them around the stuffed date, cheese facing up and the bacon seam meeting underneath.
- Place the bacon wrapped dates into a 9×13” baking dish, bacon seam side down.
- Bake for 30 minutes. (This precooks the bacon, otherwise it never crisps up)
- Pour the maple syrup into a small bowl.
- REDUCE THE OVEN TEMP to 375 F.
- Brush the treetos with maple syrup and return to cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Repeat, brush with syrup and cook another 5 minutes.
- If any syrup is remaining in the bowl, pour it over the treetos. Bake for a final 5 to 8 minutes until they look crispy and delicious.
