Special Equipment

  • Large pot

Ingredients

  • 8.5 oz chow-mein noodles
  • ½ c peanut butter (creamy works best)
  • 18 oz (1 1/2 regular-size bags) chocolate chips (milk chocolate or semi-sweet)
  • 1 large bag Peanut and/or Peanut Butter M&M's (optional)

Instructions

  • Spread a large sheet of wax paper or parchment paper on several cookie sheets.
  • Pour chocolate chips into a large pot and heat on low until they are almost melted, stirring often. Keep an eye on this so it doesn't burn!
  • Add peanut butter and stir until smooth.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Pour in all of the chow-mein noodles and gently stir / fold in until the noodles are completely covered in chocolate. Do not break the noodles if you can help it.
  • Spoon out the mix with a tablespoon and set the spoonfuls on the prepared cookie sheets about 2 inches apart.
  • For Bird Nests, shape the mounds with an indentation in the center (nest-shaped) and put a few M&M's into each indentation right away before they cool.
  • Refrigerate for 1 hour to set the chocolate, or set on a counter in a cool location for 2-3 hours until the chocolate sets. (note - if the room is warm, the chocolate will take much longer to set)
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
