Bonnie’s Lemonade

Zeela

Greetings food adventurers! Today we continue eating our way through the World Dungeon – drinking today, actually. We meet Bonnie the Gnome on the fifth floor of the dungeon, who makes a very tasty lemonade for her lemonade stand. It’s a recipe that her father left to her. Is the lemonade actually a potion with the secrets to defeating the next dungeon boss? And who is the mysterious Denise that Bonnie keeps talking about? (no spoilers, you have to read the series to find out!)

Inspired by Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl book series.

Makes 2 quarts

Ingredients

Simple syrup:

  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar

Lemonade:

  • 1 to 1 ½ cups simple syrup (depending on lemon tartness)
  • 1 cup lemon juice (approximately 5 medium lemons)
  • 2 quarts cold water

Instructions

Make simple syrup

  • Combine water and sugar in a small to medium pot.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat until the mixture is just simmering. Cook for about 10 minutes.
  • Let cool. Store any leftovers in a glass jar in the fridge for up to a week.

Make lemonade

  • Juice fresh lemons until you have about 1 cup of juice.
  • In a 2-quart pitcher, mix together 1 cup simple syrup and the cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • Add cold water up to about 1 3/4 quarts (so there is still room to stir).
  • Stir lemonade and taste. Add more simple syrup if needed, then top off the rest of the way with cold water. If you're casting any magic spells on the lemonade, now is the time.
